Dear Friends:

Recently, I tackled something I’d wanted to do for a long time: I painted our entryway light fixture.

The fixture was a detail our seller had left behind and although it was pretty, with its shiny chrome finish and Art Deco-inspired prisms, it just wasn’t our taste. I’d always longed for something more organic and perhaps colorful to hang there, but just hadn't been able to muster up the energy or motivation to remove it and redo it or buy a new one — until this past weekend.

In one inspired whirl, I went out and sprang for some chalk paint in this gorgeous blue color, removed the blingy prisms altogether, and painted the lovely sapphire hue right over the chrome. For around $35 and in about two hours (no exaggerating), I’d done it! I’d transformed our entryway.

Whether you’ve just bought your home, are staging to sell, or are happy right where you are, if you’re looking for a project to tackle this weekend, check out this roundup of home how-to articles. Guaranteed by Sunday, you’ll be congratulating yourself on a job well done.

Enjoy your home this weekend,
